T he Federal Government has approved an upward revision of fees for Nigerian passports, with the new rates set to take effect from September 1, 2024. This announcement was made on Wednesday by Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), via the agency's official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
According to Udo, the fee adjustment is part of the government’s efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
"To ensure the continued quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has sanctioned an upward review of passport fees, effective September 1, 2024," the statement read.
Under the new fee structure, a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will now cost N50,000, up from the previous N35,000. Similarly, the cost of a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will rise from N70,000 to N100,000.
The NIS acknowledged that the fee increase might cause inconvenience to prospective applicants but assured Nigerians of its ongoing commitment to transparency and quality service delivery.
This development comes as part of broader government efforts to improve service standards and ensure that Nigerian passports meet international benchmarks in quality and security.
