D r. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed as baseless and unreasonable the allegations made by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf. The governor claimed that Ganduje orchestrated an attack on the state high court, where miscreants allegedly stole sensitive documents related to Ganduje's ongoing corruption trial.
These accusations stem from at least two corruption charges filed against Ganduje by the Yusuf-led state government. The cases involve serious allegations, including bribery charges amounting to $413,000 and N1.38 billion, implicating Ganduje, his wife Hafsat, and his son Umar.
In a statement released on Thursday by Ganduje's Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje criticized Yusuf's claims, questioning his ability to manage Kano State’s security and judicial systems effectively. Ganduje pointed out the absurdity of the situation, arguing that even if the documents were stolen from the court, the government’s lawyers should still have copies.
Governor Yusuf had earlier alleged that "enemies of the state" hired vandals to break into the high court and selectively steal the documents tied to Ganduje's corruption cases. He made these remarks after inspecting the vandalized court, which had been damaged during the recent nationwide anti-hunger protests.
Ganduje's camp has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them a "huge joke" and "pedestrian propaganda." They argue that it is implausible that demonstrators could break into the court, locate specific documents related to Ganduje's trial, and take them away in today's digital era. Ganduje’s aide further claimed that the state government's accusations are an attempt to deflect blame for the recent violence in Kano and to distract from their own failures in governance.
Ganduje urged the people of Kano to remain calm and law-abiding while investigations are conducted. He emphasized that Governor Yusuf's statements and actions have serious implications and called for responsible leadership during these turbulent times.
