I n a significant overnight operation in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, the Israeli military recovered the bodies of six Israeli hostages abducted by terrorists on October 7, 2023. Among the deceased was Avraham Munder, previously presumed alive.
The six individuals, all known to have been taken alive during the Hamas-led invasion in southern Israel, were identified as:
- Alex Dancyg, 75
- Yagev Buchshtav, 35
- Chaim Peri, 79
- Yoram Metzger, 80
- Nadav Popplewell, 51
- Avraham Munder, 78
These hostages were killed during the 10-month-long conflict. While five of them had already been declared dead by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) earlier this year, Munder had remained listed as presumed alive until the discovery of his body.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed condolences to the families and praised the military and Shin Bet for their “determined” efforts. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant acknowledged the operation's risks and reiterated Israel’s commitment to rescuing all hostages.
The operation, part of an ongoing offensive in Khan Younis, involved IDF special forces who successfully recovered the bodies from a specific tunnel without resistance. The IDF continues to investigate the causes of death, considering the possibility that some of the hostages may have been killed by Israeli fire during military operations.
As of now, 105 of the 251 hostages abducted on October 7 are believed to remain in Gaza, including 34 bodies confirmed by the IDF.
