Leicester City’s Nightmare Continues with Crushing 4-0 Defeat to Brentford

L eicester City’s season hit a new low on Friday night, suffering a humiliating 4-0 home defeat to a dominant Brentford side. The King Power Stadium was awash with boos, and by halftime, fans were already heading for the exits. Under Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Foxes’ downward spiral continues—seven games without a win and not a single home goal since December.

Brentford seized control early, tearing Leicester apart with a devastating first-half blitz. Yoane Wissa opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing a sharp pass from Mikkel Damsgaard. Just four minutes later, Bryan Mbeumo curled a superb strike into the net, before Christian Norgaard made it 3-0 in the 36th minute, heading in a free-kick delivered by Mbeumo. Fabio Carvalho sealed the rout in the 72nd minute, extending Brentford’s remarkable form with their fourth consecutive away win—a club record.

Leicester’s defense was in tatters, struggling to contain Brentford’s relentless attack. Goalkeeper Mads Hermansen made three crucial saves to prevent further embarrassment, but the Foxes offered little resistance. With just 47.3% possession and eight shots (three on target), Leicester looked lifeless. Former captain Wes Morgan didn’t hold back, calling the performance “awful—lost on the pitch.” Alan Smith was equally scathing: “They don’t want the ball, and when they get it, they’re clueless.”

The fans’ frustration boiled over. As rain poured down, sarcastic cheers greeted substitutions Stephy Mavididi and Facundo Buonanotte—a hollow gesture amid the collapse. On social media, the outrage was immediate. @SamBlitzSky labeled the defeat “a new low”, while Leicester supporters demanded Van Nistelrooy’s departure.

For Brentford, the victory propels them into European contention with a 11-4-11 record, while Leicester’s 4-5-17 form reeks of relegation danger. The Foxes haven’t found the net at home since December 8 against Brighton—six consecutive goalless matches.

Jamie Vardy was a rare bright spot, earning a 6/10 rating for his relentless effort, but Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Caleb Okoli were particularly poor. Brentford’s Damsgaard (9/10, two assists) and Mbeumo (9/10, goal and assist) ran the show.

With Leicester in free fall, their next match could either be a lifeline or the final nail in Van Nistelrooy’s coffin.
