C ontroversial street-pop star Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has walked free on a ₦2 million bail after appearing before the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta on Thursday.
The "Zaazoo Zeh" crooner faced a five-count charge—including conspiracy, assault, obstruction, unlawful possession of weapons, and conduct likely to cause public unrest—linked to a violent altercation at his Odogwu Bar in Sango-Ota. Nine of his associates were also arraigned on similar charges.
According to the charge sheet, Portable and his crew allegedly attacked three town planning officials—Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero—on February 5, reportedly wielding cutlasses and firearms to obstruct their duties.
Bail Conditions and Next Court Date
Portable’s lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, pleaded for leniency, emphasizing his client’s remorse. Magistrate O.L. Oke granted bail but warned Portable against making inflammatory statements on social media, threatening stricter measures if he does.
The case has been adjourned to March 5, with Portable and his associates maintaining not guilty pleas.
Previous Legal Troubles
This latest legal battle adds to Portable’s long history of run-ins with authorities. Following a police declaration of him as wanted, he surrendered to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) before being transferred to Ogun State.
While some fans believe he is being targeted, others view the situation as long-overdue accountability. Regardless, all eyes are on the upcoming March 5 trial as Portable faces yet another moment of reckoning.
