Burna Boy and Sophie: The Sex-for-Lambo Scandal Shaking Lagos

T he vibrant city of Lagos is once again at the center of a social media storm, and this time the controversy involves Grammy-winning Afrobeat star Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, and Lagos socialite Sophia Egbueje. The scandal, dubbed #BurnaLamboGate, revolves around explosive allegations of a broken promise involving intimacy, a luxury Lamborghini Urus, and bitter fallout that has set the internet ablaze.

A Dream Ride and a Dangerous Deal

Sophia Egbueje, a 28-year-old influencer from Umuoji, Anambra State, is no stranger to Lagos' high society circles. With a carefully curated Instagram feed showcasing luxury vacations, designer outfits, and jet-setting adventures, she had long set her sights on a matte-black Lamborghini Urus valued at ₦552 million.

Sources allege that Burna Boy, whose own garage boasts several high-end cars, crossed paths with Sophia through mutual acquaintances. According to a leaked audio clip making rounds on social media, Sophia claims the Afrobeat star made a tantalizing offer: a brand-new Lamborghini in exchange for her companionship.

“He told me, ‘You want that Lambo, right? I got you. Just vibe with me,’” Sophia reportedly said in the recording. The promise, however, would soon unravel.

From Sweet Promises to Silent Treatment

What began as a luxurious fantasy quickly soured. Weeks passed, and Burna Boy’s messages allegedly dwindled to excuses before ceasing altogether. By October 2024, Sophia reportedly confronted him, only to be met with silence.

Determined to maintain her social status, Sophia claimed she pooled funds from undisclosed sources to purchase the Lamborghini herself. On December 15, 2024, she posted a triumphant Instagram video posing next to the matte-black Urus, captioned: “Dreams don’t wait for promises. #SelfMade.”

Burna Boy’s Response

The scandal erupted on February 27, 2025, when the leaked audio surfaced. While social media users debated who played whom, Burna Boy broke his silence with a freestyle video posted to Instagram. “If you no get me, forget about it. I no buy Lambo, is that why you’re shouting?” he crooned, brushing off the allegations without outright denial.

Public Outcry and Fallout

The controversy has divided public opinion. Some have labeled Sophia a gold-digger seeking clout, while others have criticized Burna Boy for allegedly exploiting his star power. Nigerian celebrities like Cubana Chiefpriest and Verydarkman have waded into the fray, with Speed Darlington delivering a scathing roast on social media.

Despite the noise, both Burna Boy and Sophia have gone silent. Attempts by Glide News to reach their camps were met with “no comment.”

The Bigger Picture

Beyond the headlines, the scandal raises deeper questions about power dynamics, social media-fueled aspirations, and the blurred lines between affection and transactional relationships. Whether Burna Boy or Sophia emerges unscathed, one thing is certain: in Lagos’ high society, promises can be as fleeting as the glint of a luxury car under the city lights.
