A devastating fire broke out on Tuesday night at a residential building located at 74 Lagos Street, Obohia Road, Aba, in Abia State. The fire completely ravaged the storey building, leaving the tenants homeless, though, fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The Fire's Impact
The blaze erupted while the residents were asleep, swiftly engulfing the entire building and reducing their belongings to ashes. While the official cause of the fire is still under investigation, some residents speculated that an electrical spark in one of the rooms may have triggered the devastating inferno.
Community Efforts to Contain the Blaze
Eyewitnesses reported that local youths and other sympathisers played a key role in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby homes and shops, thereby averting further damage and potential loss of life.
Appeal for Assistance
The affected tenants have described the incident as a major disaster, and they are now appealing to the Abia State government for urgent assistance to rebuild their lives and recover from the losses.
Efforts to contact Nnanna Arua, the Abia State Chief Fire Officer, for further comments on the incident were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
