A spectacular 10-carat blue diamond, dubbed the Mediterranean Blue, was unveiled in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, captivating jewel enthusiasts ahead of its upcoming auction in Geneva this May.
The flawless gemstone—projected to fetch up to $20 million—is the centerpiece of an exclusive $100 million diamond showcase currently on exhibition in the UAE capital. The Mediterranean Blue leads a dazzling collection comprising just eight stones totaling over 700 carats, making it one of the most valuable private displays of its kind.
“This collection includes some of the rarest diamonds on the planet,” said an official representing the auction. Abu Dhabi was strategically selected as the launch site due to the region’s growing influence in the global luxury and collectibles market.
“This is a place where both high-end traders and serious collectors converge, especially for stones of this magnitude,” the official added.
The Mediterranean Blue originated from the legendary Cullinan Mine in South Africa—discovered in 2023 as a 31.94-carat rough diamond. Its transformation into a polished masterpiece took more than a year of analysis and six painstaking months of expert cutting.
The Cullinan Mine has a storied legacy, having produced some of the world’s most iconic diamonds, including the Great Star of Africa, which adorns the British Crown Jewels.
Set to be auctioned on May 13, the Mediterranean Blue is being hailed as one of the most important blue diamonds ever unearthed—an ultra-rare find expected to make waves in the international jewelry world.
