APGA Picks Soludo as Candidate for Gubernatorial Polls


T he Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has emerged as the official candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

Governor Soludo, who ran unopposed in the party’s primary election held in Awka on Saturday, secured over 3,000 votes from delegates drawn from all 21 local government areas of the state.

Delegates participated in a “Yes” or “No” voting process. Announcing the results, Chairman of the Electoral Panel, Mr. Uche Nwegbo, revealed that out of 3,260 total delegates, 3,175 were accredited. A total of 3,172 votes were cast, with 3,168 votes in favor of Soludo, four invalid votes, and zero votes against.

Following the announcement, Mr. Nwegbo formally declared Governor Soludo as APGA’s flagbearer, sparking jubilant reactions from party members and supporters present at the venue.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Soludo expressed deep gratitude to party members for their unwavering support.

“With utmost gratitude to Him, utmost surrender to Him, in humility, I want to say that I’m humbled by this unprecedented historic display of solidarity, support, and overwhelming mandate given to me again by our party to fly its flag in the forthcoming election. I accept the nomination with all humility,” Soludo stated.

He also confirmed that he would contest the election alongside his current deputy, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, as his running mate.

With other political parties yet to conclude their primary elections, Governor Soludo’s nomination marks a significant milestone in what is expected to be a keenly contested race come November.
