#EndBadGovernance Protest Begins as Police Increase Security Presence

By Agboola Aluko | GLiDE NEWS | April 7, 2025

A wave of civil unrest began this morning in Lagos as protesters gathered under the Ikeja Underbridge to launch the #EndBadGovernance demonstration, sparking swift and visible action from security forces.

GLiDE NEWS correspondents observed a significant deployment of police and civil defense officers at the protest site. The atmosphere remained tense but calm, with demonstrators holding placards and chanting slogans against poor leadership and economic hardship.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Azuka, in charge of the Ikeja Division, made a brief appearance before departing to monitor activity at Gani Fawehinmi Park, another potential protest ground. His movement drew further public interest, as speculation grew over the extent of the protest and the government’s response.

In the Federal Capital Territory, similar security measures were implemented. Several roads in central Abuja were closed off, forcing commuters to continue their journeys on foot. While security officials have not issued a formal statement, sources suggest the restrictions may be linked to either the unfolding protest or preparations for the upcoming Police Day celebrations scheduled at Eagles Square.

As of press time, the protest in Lagos remains peaceful, though the strong security presence signals that authorities are bracing for possible escalation. Citizens across major cities are closely watching developments as calls for governance reforms continue to grow louder.
