Abuja, Nigeria – Former Adamawa North Senator, Elisha Ishaku Abbo, has criticized the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) from the 10th Senate, stating that no one can recall her.
Speaking during an Arise News interview on April 2, Abbo accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of political bias and high-handedness, arguing that the decision to suspend Akpoti-Uduaghan was unfair and politically motivated.
"Akpabio Acted Like an Emperor"
Abbo recalled how Akpabio, as a senator in the 8th Assembly, had conflicts with then-Senate President Bukola Saraki, which were handled with maturity. However, he claimed that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s case was treated harshly and unjustly.
“Akpabio sat like the emperor that he claims he is and said the woman should be suspended for six months, withdrew her security, stopped payment of her salary, barred her from being seen near the National Assembly, and even ordered the Inspector General of Police not to provide her security.”
Abbo accused Akpabio of endangering Akpoti-Uduaghan’s life by stripping her of security protection.
“When you withdraw someone’s security—which is not right—you are exposing her to be killed. The IG realized this was wrong because if anything happened to Natasha, there would be consequences.”
Senate Ignored Court Order?
Abbo further alleged that the Senate defied a court injunction that barred it from investigating Akpoti-Uduaghan until the substantive case was heard.
“The Senate went against a court judgment and suspended her—that is contempt of court. After suspending Natasha, they rushed to court to vacate the order. Instead of arresting Akpabio for contempt, the judge cowardly vacated his own judgment and recused himself.”
"Nobody Can Recall Natasha"
On reports of a planned recall of Akpoti-Uduaghan, Abbo dismissed the effort as fraudulent.
“Natasha should continue doing what she is doing. They claim they want to recall her—nobody can recall Natasha. We are not a banana republic. They went and forged signatures.”
With tensions escalating within the Senate, observers are watching closely as the political drama unfolds.
