FG to Launch 77,400 Homes Nationwide Under Renewed Hope Housing Scheme

By Agboola Aluko | GLiDE NEWS, Lagos – April 12, 2025

I n a bold step toward tackling Nigeria’s persistent housing deficit, the Federal Government is set to roll out the Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme, which aims to deliver 77,400 affordable housing units across all 774 local government areas (LGAs) in the country.

This ambitious initiative was announced by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, during a strategic meeting with representatives of Creative Sphere Limited at the ministry's headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.

Under the scheme, 100 housing units will be constructed in each LGA, and construction is expected to be completed within one year of the official launch by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of income level or social class, can access decent and dignified housing,” said Dangiwa.

Targeting the Vulnerable and Working-Class Nigerians

The programme is designed to provide shelter not only for the working class but also for Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations — including the unemployed, internally displaced persons (IDPs), widows, and orphans. The model aims to serve both the formal and informal sectors, ensuring inclusivity and broad national coverage.

According to Dangiwa, 80% of the houses will be offered to Nigerians who earn a living wage, with a flexible payment model tied to their monthly income.

“Someone earning as little as ₦30,000 per month will pay ₦10,000 monthly, which is one-third of their income. The same principle applies proportionately to higher earners,” he explained.

The remaining 20% of units will be allocated free of charge to those identified as most vulnerable — providing a safety net for citizens with no income or support structures.

Infrastructure-Backed Estates

Each housing estate will be more than just a cluster of homes. The government promises to integrate essential amenities, including primary schools, clinics, police outposts, recreational areas, and shopping malls, to create fully functional communities.

Funding for the project will come from the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, signaling a robust federal commitment to social housing.

Beyond Local Governments: Hope Cities and Estates

The Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme is just one pillar of a broader housing agenda. The other two components are:

  • Renewed Hope Housing Estates: 250 housing units in 30 state capitals, selected from all six geopolitical zones. These are directly funded through the federal budget.

  • Renewed Hope Cities: Large-scale urban developments in seven key locations — the FCT, and one city in each geopolitical zone: Rivers, Lagos, Enugu, Nasarawa, Kano, and Maiduguri. These projects will be executed under public-private partnerships (PPPs).

Private Sector Collaboration

The minister also expressed strong interest in partnering with Creative Sphere Limited for its upcoming Real Estate Innovation and Investment Carnival, a platform aimed at promoting the real estate sector and driving investment through national and international awareness campaigns.

Creative Sphere Chairman, Monday Ogedengbe, said the event will spotlight the role of real estate in economic growth, while showcasing innovations that can drive inclusivity and sustainable development in the sector.

“The carnival, roadshow, and award night will enhance visibility for government programmes and attract local and foreign investors,” Ogedengbe stated.

A Vision for a Better Nigeria

With housing being one of the most pressing challenges for millions of Nigerians, the Renewed Hope agenda stands out as a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s social development policy — one that prioritizes people, inclusivity, and sustainability.

As the countdown begins to the official launch, all eyes are on how this monumental programme will reshape the housing landscape across Nigeria.

GLiDE NEWS will continue to provide comprehensive updates on the implementation and impact of the Renewed Hope Housing Programme.
