Kevin De Bruyne to Leave Manchester City at End of the Season

By Agboola Aluko – April 4, 2025

Manchester City’s legendary midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has officially announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, marking the end of a remarkable decade at the Etihad.

The 33-year-old Belgian confirmed the news in an emotional social media post on Friday, expressing his gratitude to the club, the fans, and the city that became his home.

"Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here – and you deserve to hear it from me first," De Bruyne wrote.

"Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Chasing my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what – we won everything.”

A Legacy of Greatness

Since arriving from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has played a pivotal role in transforming Manchester City into one of the world’s most dominant clubs. Over his tenure, he has won 14 major trophies, including:

  • Six Premier League titles

  • The UEFA Champions League (2023)

  • Two FA Cups

  • Five League Cups

De Bruyne, renowned for his vision, passing, and leadership, has also cemented his place as one of the greatest midfielders of his generation. He is currently second in the Premier League’s all-time assists chart with 118 and was twice named the Players’ Player of the Year (2019/20, 2020/21).

What’s Next for De Bruyne?

With his contract set to expire in June, it remains uncertain whether he will stay with City for the Club World Cup, scheduled from June 14 to July 13.

"Every story comes to an end, but this has been the best chapter," he added. "Let’s enjoy these last moments together!"

While speculation swirls over his next move—whether a return to Belgium, a stint in MLS, or a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia—one thing is certain: Kevin De Bruyne leaves Manchester City as a true legend of the game.
