7th April 2025 — Ilorin, Kwara State
T he Kwara State Teaching Service Commission has announced the shortlisting of 1,800 candidates for teaching appointments across senior secondary schools in the state.
In a statement released in Ilorin, the Commission revealed that the successful applicants were selected after a rigorous three-month recruitment process involving computer-based tests and interviews.
According to the breakdown, 790 candidates (44%) were shortlisted for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects; 581 for core subjects such as English and Mathematics; 370 for specialised fields; and 59 for technical disciplines.
The deployment of successful applicants will be aligned with the commission’s needs assessment, ensuring coverage across all 16 local government areas of the state.
All shortlisted candidates are required to undergo a mandatory drug screening exercise to be conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in partnership with the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse, Prevention and Control, Hon. Mukail Aileru.
The drug testing will hold between Wednesday, April 9 and Saturday, April 12, 2025, across the local government areas as follows:
-
Wednesday, April 9: Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi
-
Thursday, April 10: Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin
-
Friday, April 11: Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, and Moro
-
Saturday, April 12: Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Ilorin West
The NDLEA will forward the test results directly to the commission to maintain the integrity of the process, with candidates barred from accessing their results independently.
In addition to the drug test, applicants are to present medical certificates from state-owned hospitals, original copies of academic credentials, and handwritten letters of job acceptance. Photocopies of credentials will be collected for records.
A crucial part of the onboarding includes signing a six-year bond prohibiting transfer requests, a measure aimed at addressing the shortage of qualified teachers in underserved rural communities.
Further conditions of service will be communicated during the documentation phase.
