By Agboola Aluko | GLiDE NEWS, Lagos

I n a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an illegal baby factory operating in the Ijegun area of the state, rescuing 10 victims and arresting three suspects.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the raid followed a credible tip-off received by authorities last Saturday. Acting swiftly, operatives stormed the location and apprehended the suspected ringleader, 35-year-old Mariam Vincent, along with two alleged accomplices—23-year-old Orie Ruth and 18-year-old Ujunwa Ifeanyi.

During the operation, officers discovered seven adult women and three children, aged seven, five, and two, held under suspicious circumstances. The adult victims were identified as Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26). The rescued children were named Destiny, Miracle, and Success.

All victims are currently receiving medical attention and psychological support from appropriate state agencies.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects reportedly abducted the women and children from various locations across Lagos in a bid to operate an illegal baby trafficking ring. Hundeyin confirmed that the suspects had confessed to the crime and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

In a broader briefing on security efforts across the state, the police spokesperson noted that within the past two weeks, 39 suspects had been arrested for a range of serious offences—including murder, kidnapping, rape, child theft, and unlawful possession of firearms and drugs.
