N igeria has reiterated its commitment to expanding its technological collaboration with Swedish telecom giant Ericsson, signaling a major step toward digital innovation and economic transformation.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, while receiving a high-level Ericsson delegation on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, assured of the government's swift implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier in 2024. The visiting team was led by Mr. Patrick Johansson, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Describing Ericsson as a "pioneer" in Nigeria's technological advancement, Shettima commended the firm’s consistent support in shaping the country’s digital future. He particularly lauded the company’s ongoing investments in innovation hubs and its commitment to nurturing small and medium-sized enterprises.
“Ericsson has been a dependable ally in our development story,” Shettima said. “We value our relationship with Sweden and with Ericsson. Nigeria is a large nation with a young, tech-savvy population and a growing number of unicorns. The future is Nigeria.”
He encouraged Ericsson and other global investors to leverage Nigeria’s vast digital potential and invest in key areas that would help unlock economic opportunities across various sectors.
Responding, Mr. Johansson reaffirmed Ericsson’s dedication to deepening its partnership with Nigeria, citing the country as a priority in the company’s long-term strategy for Africa. He highlighted local innovation and entrepreneurship as pillars of Ericsson’s regional engagement.
Also present was Majda Kassi, Ericsson’s Vice President and Head of Customer Units for West and South Africa, who underscored Nigeria’s central role in the company’s African operations. Kassi reaffirmed Ericsson’s commitment to expanding digital access, fostering tech talent, and driving inclusive growth.
The meeting comes as Nigeria intensifies its efforts to position itself as Africa’s leading tech hub, with growing attention from global firms aiming to tap into the country’s youthful demographic and booming digital economy.
