Senator Natasha: My Husband Suggested the Helicopter for Kogi Rally

S uspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has disclosed that the decision to fly into her hometown by helicopter was not hers but rather her husband’s suggestion, following security restrictions imposed by the state government.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels TV programme on Thursday, Akpoti-Uduaghan addressed the circumstances surrounding her dramatic return to Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, where a large crowd defied the rally ban to welcome her.

“This is my home, this is my town. Nobody can stop me from coming home. I am the daughter of the late Dr. Abdul Akpoti,” she told supporters during the visit.

Amid a statewide ban on political rallies and convoys by Governor Usman Ododo, allegedly over security concerns, roads leading to her home were reportedly blocked by security forces.

“It was my husband’s idea. Since all roads leading to my house were blocked, he suggested we use a helicopter instead,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said.

The Senator, who is currently serving a six-month suspension from the Senate over allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, argued that the government’s restrictions were clearly aimed at her.

“But I didn’t break any law,” she maintained. “The gathering took place on my property. I built the road leading to my house. So, there was no law broken.”

Her comments come amid mounting political tension in Kogi State, with critics accusing the state government of selective enforcement of security directives.
